24 September 2024
in collaboration with Yang Sio Maan
The activity:
- is inspired by a growing literature on multisensory international relations led by scholars such as Roland Bleiker and William Callahan.
- is also indebted to a popular trend in sciences to adopt humanistic critical viewing, for instance, by introducing arts program to medical training.
- serves to promote critical knowledge of Macau’s cultural and strategic positionality in between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (PSCs).
- will help to better delineate future teaching and research strategies.
We ask:
- What is politically interesting/innovative about Macao’s role in promoting China-PSC cooperation? How can you use arts to approach the question?
- What are some common visuals of China-PSC engagement? What are some possible new visuals of that engagement?
- Are individuals like you and me important in Macao’s Lusophone bridge roles? How would you describe people-to-people contacts on the ground using a visual register?
- What are some important tasks for Macao? And how have these been accomplished, or not, as we “see” today?
- Where do we see China-PSC cooperation in action? Where are the sites of visual politics?
GOAL: We want to promote better seeing and visualizing of Macao’s potentials in between China and the PSCs
